Transformation is the word that characterises manipura chakra. There we come into our own power, developing willpower and self-esteem. Fire is a powerful element which not only burns but also modifies the visible elements of earth and water into invisible matter like heat, vapour and gas. Not only that, fire brings light and therefore illuminates our path in life, bringing direction to our journey. Some qualities that a well functioning manipura chakra brings are: self-confidence, integrity, spontaneity, open-mindedness, vibrancy and being fiery :) This is the chakra of growth on a personal level, allowing knowledge from other sources to be received whilst developing our own beliefs system, values and principles.

On a physical level it relates to the digestive system (stomach and the colon) and the ability to assimilate the nutrients and benefits from the food we ingest.

Yoga poses: Any twisting pose will stimulate this chakra. Kapalabhati and the naulis are great pranayama practices to awaken the fire within.

Some essential oils to stimulate manipura: bergamot, peppermint, ginger, fennel, chamomile, juniper...

Agni (fire) mudra: place right hand closed into a fist with thumb (fire element) pointed up onto the palm of open left hand facing up.
